EcoQuest:
The World's First Carbon-Reducing Game.

Game
By matching electronic appliance tiles, students reinforcing energy literacy through interactive, match-three gameplay

Event
In event tab, students reinforce their learning and turn it into behavior changes with daily quizzes and real-life emission reduction feedback.
Track your in-game progress
Students land on the map tab when they start the game. They can immediately see their progress on the game stages and navigate through event tabs and stages.

A 4-in-a-row match creates an “energy-save” block, which cuts the power consumption of the 7 surrounding it in a 3x3 grid in half. A 5-in-a-row match creates an “upgrade” block, which increases the energy efficiency index of high-consumption blocks by 1 level, which affects power consumption. This enables users to visualize the importance of energy efficiency in consumption reduction.
02

Tiles represent different electrical appliances. A 3-in-a-row match reduces total energy usage by 3*(power consumption). Every 5 seconds, the total standby power of the electronics is added to the total energy consumption. This number is calculated according to the number of electronics in a classroom from proprietary EcoQuest data.
01

After each stage, users see the energy and emissions they reduce. Through this game mechanism, users learn how to quantify energy consumption and identify energy-hog appliances, just as we quantify the price of a McDonald’s hamburger.
03

Play,
Learn.
Players reduce a classroom’s energy consumption by matching appliance tiles. In this process, students learn to identify and prioritize energy-hog appliances to achieve maximum reduction within the move limit.
From Literacy to Action
Students consolidate knowledge and turn it into action in the Event Tab.

By integrating NetZero@School database, EcoQuest offers:
Monthly Inter-school Leaderboard : EcoQuest ranks schools based on their emission reduction. This enables students to earn in-game awards and visualize their impacts, which motivates further behavior.
NZ@S Shop : Students can purchase expert-solution packages from NetZero@School with in-game points. Experts from NetZero@School provide consultation services to further reduce emissions.
EcoQuest partners with school carbon emission analysis initiative "NetZero@School" for its in-game reward/tier system.

Daily Quiz
Booster Wheel Daily Quiz offers students an engaging way to reinforce energy literacy every 24 hours. By solving a quiz, students earn a spin on the Booster Wheel, which grants random in-game boosters.
The primary quiz format involves ordering in-game items based on their energy consumption, such as determining whether a lightbulb, computer, or refrigerator grants the most points when cleared. This simple yet effective activity teaches students the "energy hierarchy" of electronics, as point values correspond to real-life energy expenditures.

1
Monthly Energy Tier
EcoQuest's Monthly Leaderboard motivates real-life behavior change in an inter-school competition with rewards on the line. Participating schools are ranked by their energy reduction achievements.
As students develop an understanding of the "energy hierarchy" through EcoQuest gameplay, they will reduce actions to rank higher than other schools and receive in-game awards. This serves as EcoQuest’s primary tool for driving real-world impact.

3
Weekly Clear Race
Weekly Clear Race is a weekly competition where players from each school or classroom collaborate to clear as many levels as possible. The first group to reach a predetermined milestone (e.g., 100 levels cleared) earns special rewards.
Rewards are reset and updated weekly to maintain engagement and provide fresh incentives. This feature encourages sustained gameplay, fosters teamwork, and motivates students to actively participate in EcoQuest.

2
NZ@S Shop
Purchasable for 3 billion in-game points, the NetZero@School Expert-Solution Package allows schools to take emission reduction to the next level through expert consultation.
This system enables students to break past the emission reduction barrier once they reeduce emissions through changing daily habits. In doing so, EcoQuest sustainably fuels self-efficacy.
